The 2015 Homestead National Monument 5 oz Silver Coin is the first release in 2015 of the US Mint’s “America the Beautiful” series. The ATB Silver Bullion Coin® Program illustrates America’s beauty and natural diversity in 5 ounces of .999 fine silver.
Homestead National Monument was established in 1936 where the first homestead was claimed under President Abraham Lincoln’s 1862 Homestead Act. The Homestead Act facilitated westward expansion by offering land for free to those brave enough to settle it.
The reverse of the 5 oz Silver Homestead ATB Coin features a stylized log cabin, water pump, and corn stalks. These devices represent three basic needs of the early American settlers: shelter, water, and food. The inscriptions read, “HOMESTEAD”, “NEBRASKA”, “2015”, and “E PLURIBUS UNUM”.
The obverse of the 5 oz silver coin is a reproduction of the US quarter, though in 99.9% fine silver. The obverse carries a portrait of President George Washington. The inscription “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” features above Washington’s profile, “QUARTER DOLLAR” below, and “LIBERTY” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” to either side of it.
The 2015 Homestead National Monument 5 oz Silver Coin is the 26th strike in the America the Beautiful series, which will run through 2012 and consist of 50 commemorative silver coins.
