The reverse of the 2016 Silver Panda features a panda bear in a tree in a bamboo forest. The eyes, ears, and legs of the panda on this beautiful coin have a nice proof-like finish to show the panda’s bi-colored fur. The reverse of the 2016 Silver Pandas also features a background of bamboo trees, and inscriptions of coins denomination, weight, and metal purity.
Endemic to China and thanks to their black and white coat, pandas are among the most well-known creatures on the earth thanks. Male pandas can grow to almost 350 pounds, and females to 275 pounds. Their diet is composed mostly of bamboo, however they will occasionally eat other types of grass and small rodents.
The 2016 Silver Panda obverse features the Temple of Heaven. The building can be found in Beijing and on the obverse of each coin in the Panda series. “People’s Republic of China” in Chinese and “2016” are inscribed.
Chinese Silver Pandas have been produced annually by the Chinese Mint since 1983. Starting in 2016, however, the Chinese Pandas have left the troy ounce standard, and adopted a metric weight. In the past, the 1 oz coins weighed 31.1 grams, however the mint has decided to make the production process simpler, changing the weight to an even 30g.
