The ATB Effigy Mounds National Monument 5 oz Silver Coin is the first 2017 release in the America the Beautiful coin series, which has released 5 new state designs per year since 2010. Each of these silver bullion coins contains 5 troy ounces of .999 fine silver and features a design commemorating American national parks, forests, and memorials. All ATB coins are backed by the US government, and therefore are eligible for a precious metals IRA.
Each coin in the ATB series shares an obverse, which features the profile of President George Washington. Designed by John Flanagan, this portrait has been on the obverse of American quarters since 1932 (with digital enhancements made in 2010). Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “QUARTER DOLLAR.”
The reverse features the Effigy Mounds National Monument in Iowa, designed by Richard Masters and sculpted by Renata Gordon. The aerial view shows mounds that were built by American Indians over 1,000 years ago in order to commemorate deceased loved ones. Over 200 mounds are preserved at this site. Inscriptions include “EFFIGY MOUNDS,” “IOWA,” “2017,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
