Exquisitely struck in 5 ounces of .999 silver, the 2019 Lowell National Historical Park coin is the first of five 2019-dated releases and is the 46th in the America the Beautiful program. Lowell National Historical Park preserves and interprets the involvement of Lowell, Massachusetts in the Industrial Revolution, when the city played a major role in the booming textile industry. The era was also defined in part by the “Mill Girls,” young women who were recruited to work in the mills where they earned cash wages and lived in supervised, company-owned boarding houses. They became an important voice for labor by advocating for better working conditions, supporting abolition, and embracing education.

Each coin is struck from 5 ozs of .999 fine silver and bears a legal tender face value of 25 cents.

The obverse features the same portrait of George Washington that is seen on the obverse of all US quarters. The portrait is surrounded by the inscriptions of “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, “LIBERTY”, “IN GOD WE TRUST”, and “QUARTER DOLLAR”.

The reverse features a woman working at a power loom.. A view of Lowell is seen through a window, including the Boott Mill clock tower and a factory smokestack. Inscriptions are “LOWELL,” “MASSACHUSETTS,” “2019,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM (out of many, one).”
